A little about us

Providence OPC is a congregation of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church (OPC). The OPC was founded in 1936 after several decades of struggle within the mainline Presbyterian Church had made it clear that American Presbyterianism had lost its way. A small band of stalwart reformers envisaged Presbyterianism true to the infallible Scriptures. Ever since its inception, the OPC has maintained the stance of historic, biblical Presbyterianism: the entire Bible is the verbally inspired Word of God, our only rule for faith and practice. The OPC fervently believes that the Westminster Confession of Faith, along with the Larger and Shorter Catechisms, are the clearest, most consistent expression of the Bible's truth. We have been dedicated to proclaiming the whole counsel of God, nothing more or less.

We are committed not only to right doctrine but also to right practice. We in the OPC believe, in fact, that the two are inseparably linked. The church is that body of our Lord called out of this sinful world to be His holy bride. As such, our congregation is committed to worship, edification, evangelism, and service. We believe in God's appointed means of grace calculated to help us fulfill these commitments: the ministry of the Word (God speaking to us, particularly in preaching), the sacraments (signs and seals of our union with Christ and communion with each other) and prayer (the outpouring of renewed hearts to heaven).
