“New Building”
Original title: Loan Fund at Work in Glassboro
By Ross W. Graham which was run in New Horizons Magazine a publication of the Orthodox Presbyterian Church
Providence OPC of Glassboro, N.J. (previously Cross Keys Fellowship of Turnersville, N.J.), has purchased a church building. The Church that has met in temporary facilities since 1986 has finely found a home! It was my privilege to be with the congregation for their first worship service in their new building. The facility was brimming with activity that day, with sixty-one in attendance. Already, new people from this community, Known for Rowan Collage, were visiting.
This was a special joy to me. I helped start the congregation as the regional home missionary for the Presbytery of New Jersey in October of 1985. I was at the first bible Study that met in a doctor’s office in Turnersville, at the first worship service in an elementary school auditorium in Hurffville, at the first worship service at the Cross Keys Grange Hall, and now at the first worship service in their permanent home.
Pastor Alan Strange grasped them moment well when, after pronouncing the benediction, he told the congregation that he had a second benediction to offer - “Leave the chairs where they are.” Longtime members of the church applauded. For every previous Sunday in the church 8-year existence, the close of service had meant folding up all the chairs and returning a rented hall to its original condition for someone else to use.
